In addition, care should be taken to ensure that the perfume bottle is tightly closed after use. Air entering the bottle can cause the fragrance to evaporate. Even in summer, a perfume should never be stored in the refrigerator, as the temperatures are far too low. A perfume that has already gone "bad" can easily be identified by its rancid scent. In this case, it is necessary to dispose of the entire perfume bottle along with its contents. An unopened perfume, however, can be used without concern even after the expiry date has passed. However, it is possible that the fragrance may then be less intense. Even though fragrances are usually referred to as perfumes, there are different variants. In addition to a perfume, eau de toilette and eau de parfum are also available. The difference between a perfume and an eau de toilette lies in the intensity of the scent due to the different alcohol content. While an eau de toilette contains approximately 6 to 9 percent alcohol, a perfume contains at least 10 to 14 percent, and in some products even 20 percent alcohol. The light scent of an eau de toilette fades more quickly, however this fragrance form is ideal for the office and for occasions where strong scents should not be worn.
